Who made these videos?
The videos seemed to be made by developers who were debugging several features of the game like NPC tracking, camera angles, and locations in Vice City. Some of the videos also contain conversations between the protagonist and NPCs.
Hacker’s confession
The hacker stole GTA 5 and 6 source code along with assets and GTA 6 testing built as claimed. He is now extorting Rockstar Games by threatening them to release more data. The threat actor is ready to sell the GTA 5 source code along with its assets and thus accepting offers above $ 10000. However, he is still not ready to see the GTA 6 source code. When the forum members refused to believe that the hack was real, ‘teapotuberhacker’ claimed that he was also behind the cyberattack on Uber happened that recently and simultaneously shared the screenshots of source code from Grand Theft Auto 5 and 6 as proof. What is Rockstar Games saying?
While Rockstar Games is yet to release any statement about the attack but Jason Schreier of Bloomberg tweeted: Since the leaked videos made their way to Twitter and YouTube, Rockstar Games issued DMCA infringement notices and takedown requests to pull off the videos. Take 2 Interactive, the owner of Rockstar Games, stated, “This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Take 2 Interactive,” in a copyright claim. These takedown demands further validated the news that the leaked GTA 6 videos are not fake. Watch this YouTube video:
Latest update
The efforts by Rockstar Games did not help much. This is because the stolen GTA 6 videos and parts of the source code had started to get leaked on Telegram by the threat actor and others as well. For instance, ‘teapotuberhacker’ leaked the GTA 6 source code file which is 9500 lines long. It appears to be connected with the executing scripts for different in-game actions.
